Scotland women coach Anna Signeul rejects Aussies
SCOTLAND women’s coach Anna Signeul, who yesterday named her 18-player squad for this month’s friendly matches against America, has turned down a chance to coach the Australian national side.
Signeul was invited to fly to Australia for talks, but has instead decided to sign a new two-year contract with the Scottish Football Association. She is determined to continue building up the women’s game in this country, despite her bitter disappointment at failing to take Scotland to the Euro 2013 finals in her native Sweden. Confirming that she had turned down the offer, Signeul said: “I have received a lot of offers since I came to Scotland in 2005 but I am very happy with the job I have. I am a person who is very passionate and dedicated.
“Things are getting better for women’s football here, and we are getting much more support both inside the SFA and from organisations such as sportscotland and the government.”
