Scotland Women 1 - 0 Netherlands Women: Little spirit

A FIRST-half goal from Kim Little was enough to beat the Netherlands yesterday and ensure that Scotland ended their Cyprus Cup campaign on a high.

The win left them in fifth place in the 12-team tournament, but that barely does justice to Scotland’s efforts. They arrived in Cyprus without three defenders, while others, including Little, were carrying injuries.

Anna Signeul’s side then had to play New Zealand without captain and goalkeeper Gemma Fay and it looked ominous when they lost the opening game 1-0 with Little limping off in the second half. Despite that setback, Scotland drew 4-4 with England in the second game and ended the tournament with back-to-back wins over Italy and then the Dutch.
