Scotland Vs Wales: Charlie Adam says best yet to come from Craig Levein’s squad

SCOTLAND midfielder Charlie Adam today insisted that the best is yet to come from Craig Levein’s side – and admitted that tonight’s game against Wales is a must-win.

The Tartan Army have voiced their displeasure at disappointing draws against Serbia and Macedonia at Hampden in Scotland’s opening two matches of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

With just two points on the board and games against group favourites Belgium and Croatia still to come, hopes of qualifying for a major finals for the first time since 1998 are already fading. But, while results have perhaps not gone their way in Group A so far, Adam believes that the overall performances have been a source of some hope for the future. And he believes that the Scots can pull off a positive result in Cardiff.

Adam said: “There is a lot of improvement in us. Even though we never played badly in the last two games the results never went for us. We have still got the performances there that we are happy with. We can build on that. The quality that has come in will raise things a bit and hopefully we can get three points. It is going to be a tough game against Wales, but we are ready.

“We have to win. That is it. It is as simple as that. We can’t think too far ahead in this group. If we win it will give us five points and we will see what happens on Tuesday night. First and foremost, we need to win against Wales.”

Meanwhile, Hearts goalkeeper Jack Hamilton kept a clean sheet as Scotland Under-19s defeated their Romanian
counterparts 1-0 last night.
