Scotland U19s face Swiss
SCOTLAND’S under-19 side complete their qualification group for next year’s UEFA European finals in Lithuania in a top-of-the-table clash with Switzerland at the Falkirk Stadium this afternoon.
Ricky Sbragia’s side saw off Armenia 4-0 and then Romania 1-0 in last week’s games to ensure their passage to the elite round of qualifying next spring, with top spot up for grabs against a Swiss side that sits on four points.
The former Sunderland manager said: “There is a slight advantage in that we get a higher seeding in the next round if we win the group. The boys have been fantastic so far and have been a credit to themselves and their clubs so it would be good to end a fine week with a win over Switzerland.
“They need to beat us to be sure of qualifying themselves and we have not lost a goal yet and I want to keep that record going. Jack Hamilton has done well for us in goal.”
Hearts youngster Hamilton said: “Make no mistake, we want three wins and three clean sheets. The defence in front of me has been fantastic as you can see how well co-ordinated the three Celtic boys are and Jack Grimmer is in the Premiership with Fulham so it is quite a solid back-line.”
Local lad Stephen Kingsley of the Bairns looks set to start as Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser has been ruled out and Dundee United’s Ryan Gauld could also feature after missing Thursday’s win over the Romanians with illness.
Sbragia added: “It will not be a case of resting anyone, more putting out the fittest side. Hopefully Islam Feruz can make it as he has been outstanding.”
