Renwick’s not getting carried away

The students of Heriot-Watt University are edging closer to an immediate return to the Premier Division after being relegated last season and a win tomorrow against Eyemouth United would open up a ten-point gap between them and the Fishermen with only four games remaining.

However, Heriot-Watt’s head coach, Michael Renwick, is not counting his chickens quite yet and said: “We are focusing on one game at a time. Eyemouth are definitely still in the race for promotion and I am conscious that there are still lots of tough games to come for all the teams in the First Division. Eyemouth will probably be thinking that this is their last throw of the dice.”

Heriot-Watt have lost only once at home in the league this season and that was to tomorrow’s opponents and Renwick emphasised: “They gave us, without doubt, our toughest game of the season so far.

“Carl Hudson [the Eyemouth manager] has done a great job with mainly local boys. However, we are unbeaten in our last seven games and we are hitting form at exactly the right time – it’s now about what we do in our remaining games.

“I am conscious that both Eyemouth and Gala Fairydean are still in the mix but we have given ourselves a good platform from which to build.

“Our objective all season has been to gain promotion although to go one better and win the Championship would obviously be better.”

Renwick has a full squad available including Banji Koya and Chris Donnelly, both of whom have recovered from injury.

Hudson said: “I hope that we turn up tomorrow because we were poor in our 3-0 defeat from Preston Athletic last Saturday.”
