RANGERS will begin the 2012/13 season with a Ramsdens Cup first round tie away to Brechin City, at Glebe Park.
Tayside Police and the Scottish Football League (SFL) confirmed that the match would go ahead despite concerns voiced about the number of Rangers fans expected to attend the match.
Dens Park, home to newly-promoted SPL club Dundee, had been suggested as a possible neutral venue. However, the match will go ahead in the Angus town at 1500 BST on Saturday July 28.
Brechin’s Glebe Park ground can only accommodate 3,960 spectators, the majority of which is standing only. The club missed out on promotion to the First Division after narrowly losing to Airdrie United in a playoff.
The two clubs have met five times in all competitions, with Rangers enjoying a 100% win record. The most recent match between the two sides was in the 2000/01 season, when Rangers beat Brechin 2-0 at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup.
