Queen’s Park v Dundee: ‘We are giving Queen’s Park every respect’, says Barry Smith

Dundee manager Barry Smith has promised not to take Queen’s Park lightly in tonight’s Scottish Communities League Cup tie.

The Dark Blues head for Hampden for their second round tie as strong favourites to chalk up their first win of the new season against their Third Division hosts.

Smith’s side have already survived a scare against lowly Peterhead in the first round, when they were taken all the way to a penalty shoot-out before securing their place in the next round. And Smith said: “We are giving Queen’s Park every respect. We know this has the makings of a very difficult tie, so the last thing we would do is take it for granted. That’s not how we go about our business and we’ve already had Queens watched.

“It’s never easy going to play lower-league opposition in the cup and this tie will be no different. It’s important we get into the next round, which the players know ,so we’re going there hopefully to do a job.”

Dundee have yet to score from open play in five games this season, but Smith said: “It would be worse if we weren’t creating chances. I’m sure the goals will come if we keep doing the right things.”

Queen’s have club captain Richard Sinclair unavailable while Tony Quinn is a doubt with a calf strain and Michael Keenan is struggling with a knock he picked up against Peterhead at the weekend
