Paul Hanlon latest Hibs star facing suspension

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon was today hit with a third suspension problem as it was revealed Paul Hanlon has become the latest Easter Road star to be hit by a ban.

Fenlon already knows he will be without top scorer Garry O’Connor for Saturday’s trip to face Rangers at Ibrox, the striker having picked up his sixth yellow card of the season against Dunfermline.

And fellow hitman Leigh Griffiths, who has claimed four goals in his last three matches, could also be sidelined this weekend, as Hibs ponder whether to appeal the “offer” of a two-game suspension for the on-loan Wolves star. The Scotland Under-21 striker was caught yet again by television cameras making an offensive gesture during Saturday’s defeat by St Johnstone, his third such offence in a matter of weeks. Griffiths, already suspended for the William Hill Scottish Cup clash with Kilmarnock a week on Saturday, is facing a month without football, if his latest “conviction” by the SFA’s compliance officer, Vincent Lunny, is upheld although Hibs have yet to decide whether to appeal the decision.

If the two-match suspension stands, Griffiths will not only miss the Rangers game but relegation-threatened Hibs’ next SPL fixture, against Aberdeen at Easter Road on February 11 as well as the Cup tie.

Now Fenlon has learned Scotland Under-21 skipper Hanlon will sit out the visit of the Dons after being hit with a one-match ban having picked up his sixth booking of the season in the weekend defeat by St Johnstone, one which left Hibs just one point ahead of SPL basement outfit Dunfermline. Hanlon would normally have served his suspension two weeks after hitting the SFA’s disciplinary limit but as the ban applies to the SPL and not the Scottish Cup, it will be held over for a week meaning he misses the Dons game a week later.

I really find it strange that Griffiths has made a rude gesture to his OWN fans and gets two days suspension whereas Croft of St Johnstone got away with a heavy two footed tackle and then got a goal. Did the compliiance officer look at that incident..............This is as some managers are saying down to the editing of the game video by the TV media..................... surely that itself has problems in how it is edited ...................TV made a big issue about Griffiths and his finger knowing that it would cause problems............. Lets hope they take more interest in all the other teams and their players who misbehave or fould badly .....Griffiths has been stupid but 4 days suspension!!!! ..................a bit unfair in my eyes..............THe whole refereeing decisions are getting out of hand by all of these funny and indeed stupid rules such as the offside rule and now reacting to your OWN fans who are now punished again. ... I can understand if it is against opposition fans like the Cowdenbeatrh game.... Looks like Hibs are not only fighting relegation but refereeing decisions.

70 - Waspy100. You've had it pointed out to you twice now that neither club can claim the moral high ground when it comes to role models, and yet you persist with your asinine comments. I don't want you to be ignored on here. For one to be completely blanked in both the online and offline realms would be a world first IMHO.... oh hang on I forgot about ToTT, GorgieBoysAreInTown, Jenks, Super Marius, Inspector Jambo ... hang on it's going to take me a while to remember the rest of the Ant Hill Mob brb....

Notice GO'C was up in court today posession of cocaine and resisting arrest. Another great role model NOT. The judge even had to tell him to stop chewing his bubblegum when in the dock. Some folk never learn.

"commencement of a sentence". Perfectly acceptable to all who appreciate that English can be a very elegant language. I can understand though that some might find it strange.
