Pat Fenlon tells Hibs to get their act together

HibERNIAN manager Pat Fenlon has accused his players of “believing the hype” and says they could face a dramatic spiral down the SPL if they do not get their act together.

The Leith outfit succumbed to a 3-1 defeat by St Johnstone on Monday evening, turning in a dismal display which was described, by captain James McPake as their worst of the season. Hibs’ recent poor sequence of results has extended to just one win in ten league outings and, despite sitting in fifth spot, they are only five points above 11th-placed St Mirren, who they face in Paisley on Saturday.

Fenlon reckons his charges may have become complacent following a splendid start to the campaign when they rose to
the summit of the table on two occasions.

“Maybe we had too good a start to the season,” fumed the Irishman. “Maybe people were starting to believe the hype. That would be ludicrous, because we are not very far from the other end of the table at the moment.

“We shouldn’t have performances like Monday at this club any more. We have worked too hard to get to where we are. We did not show hunger, and that is unacceptable here.

“We’ll work hard to put things right but the players need to realise that what went on for 90 minutes against St Johnstone was not good enough and we will require a lot better on
Saturday.”
