Olympic security for Ayr v Killie semi-final

Ayr United and Kilmarnock supporters travelling to Hampden for their Scottish Communities League Cup semi-final on Saturday 28 January have been asked to arrive in plenty of time in order that Olympic Gamesstyle security checks can be carried out on them.

A spokesperson at the national stadium revealed: “Hampden Park is a venue for this summer’s Olympics and there is a requirement from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games to carry out a number of test events to trial search capability prior to the start of the Games.”

The all-Ayrshire clash was chosen and the implications mean that all supporters entering the North Stand of the stadium will be searched at turnstiles numbered 30-49, to the standard required for the Olympic football events at Hampden in July and August.

The spokesperson added: “This will include a ‘meet and greet’ away from the turnstiles where supporters will be required to empty their possessions into an A4 sized plastic bag prior to a full search at the turnstiles.

“Bag searches will be ushered to one side to prevent any backlog.”

“These search procedures will be carried out in respect of both sets of fans and suitable arrangements are in place for male and female supporters.

“The co-operation of all supporters will ensure that a smooth, safe passage into the stadium will take place, with no undue delay.”

for the amount of attendees at the olympic matches at Hampden they'd have been better trialling this approach at a Queens Park match. that'll attract a commensurate audience.
