Nitton give Students a real lesson

Newtongrange kick-started
the East Region Juior season with an impressive 4-0 win over Edinburgh University at Peffermill.

Chris King started the ball rolling with Grant Meaney scoring a double and Gary Cherrie finishing the game off from the penalty spot.

In the pick of Saturday’s other friendlies, Musselburgh fielded a young side but still beat Easthouses 2-1 thanks to goals from Danny Kelly and Andy Sinclair. Penicuik had Peebles Rovers as their opponents and could have had a double-figure score line. They settled for a 7-0 win with goals from Craig Miller, Sean Paterson with a double, Keith Barr, Craig Meikle, John Elliot and Chris Roxburgh.

Whitburn had another young side on display against Dunipace and they too produced the goods with a 4-2 win. Fraser Spence scored a quick double with full back Andy Gordon and Mark Sharp getting the other goals.

Super League new boys Sauchie were at Tranent and showed class in a 6-0 demolition of the Forresters Park side.
