Maud aim for max impact, warns Christie

BONNYRIGG ROSE will have new signings Ross Hamilton and Chris Gray in their squad when they host Aberdeenshire team Maud in the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup tomorrow.

Both players have enjoyed spells at New Dundas Park before and further strengthen Max Christie’s options for this weekend’s rescheduled 
second-round tie.

While many observers are expecting a comfortable home win, Christie today warned: “We must be focused on this game. They will be coming down here to try and get a result. An East Super League champions’ scalp would be a big prize if they can win. That’s something we have to avoid. The postponement last Saturday gave the players who were carrying knocks to rest and get fit again.

“We have a big couple of games ahead and it’s important that we keep focused.”

Broxburn travel to Barrhead for their game against Arthurlie.

The West Super League side have a good record in the Scottish Cup, reaching the fifth round last season only to lose out to Bo’ness after a replay. However, they are fourth bottom of their league, following on from last year’s finish in the bottom half of the table. Broxburn manager Steve Pittman, though, is not worried about last season. “It’s a tricky tie for us,” he said. “They have a good record and they like the Scottish Cup.

“We are both Super League sides so it’s likely to be close. We’re getting players back to fitness now and we’re hoping to have a strong squad for the game. The only worry is that Craig Young is at a wedding and we don’t know if he’ll get away for a couple of hours.”

Elsewhere, Penicuik travel to Ayrshire for their game against Girvan, a unique club in that they hold dual membership of both the Senior game and the Juniors allowing them to compete in the William Hill Scottish and Emirates Scottish Junior Cup every season.

The match will be a good test for Craig Meikle’s Penicuik but it’s a tie they can win.

Armadale are at home to Aberdeen side Hall Russell, a team they beat up north a couple of seasons ago.

South Division side Livingston are away to Dunipace, while Pumpherston host Aberdeenshire team Whitehills.

Edinburgh are at home to Scone Thistle after a year out of the game for the Perthshire outfit and, finally, Stoneyburn have West Premier League side Maryhill as their visitors.
