Livingston 0-2 Airdrie Utd: Back to winning ways for Jimmy Boyle’s men

Airdrie’s roller-coaster start to the season was back on an upward trajectory yesterday after seeing off Livingston with a workmanlike 2-0 victory in West Lothian.

Jimmy Boyle’s side have bowed out of the League and Ramdens Cup with defeats to Third Division sides Queen’s Park and East Stirlingshire respectively. But the Diamonds put their midweek setback to Shire behind them as they made it two wins from two in the First Division.

“The two games in the two cups have been really disappointing to us but that’s six from six in the league so it’s a great start for us,” said Boyle.

“It seems to be up and then down so we’ll see what happens next week against Dunfermline.

“I thought we had good chances and we took our goals well.”

After a poor first half, John Boyle struck his fourth goal of the season in the 58th minute when the striker shot past the grounded Andy McNeil after the goalkeeper saved Nathan Blockley’s effort.

Jamie Bain added a second in similar circumstances in the 70th minute after McNeil had denied substitute Paul Di Giacomo.

Livingston manager John Hughes said: “I felt, in the final third, we lacked real penetration.”
