Livi leave it late to beat Dumbarton
LIVINGSTON overcame a dogged Dumbarton to progress to the third round of the Scottish Communities League Cup last night in West Lothian.
With eight first team players out missing, John Hughes’ team had a makeshift look and an average age of less than 21, but his charges rallied to see off their First Division opponents 3-2 after 120 minutes.
Jim Lister gave Dumbarton the lead on 37 minutes before Iain Russell equalised with a penalty two minutes later, and it wasn’t until the 98th minute that Bobby Barr put the Lions ahead. Substitute Dylan Easton made it three before Mark Gilhaney pulled a second back for Alan Adamson’s side, but they couldn’t find an equaliser in the remaining six minutes.
The home side were repelled time after time in the second period, but Barr eventually found the way to goal from a McNulty cut back in extra time.
Easton rounded off an impressive passing move on 102 minutes, and then Gilhaney scored after Livi keeper Andrew McNeil brilliantly blocked twice on the line with time running out.
