Lionel Messi at double as Barcelona go 13 clear

The unstoppable Lionel Messi scored twice for Barcelona last night as they eased to a 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano at the Nou Camp.

David Villa opened the scoring before Messi’s double, while Raul Tamudo grabbed a consolation for the visitors. The victory took Barca 13 points clear of Real Madrid in La Liga.

In Italy, Edinson Cavani’s goal drought ended when he scored twice for Napoli in a 3-2 win over Atalanta, although Atalanta twice equalised via a Fabio Cannavaro own goal and German Denis. However, Napoli, who had coach Walter Mazzarri sent off at the end, grabbed a late winner through Goran Pandev.

Mario Balotelli also scored twice to give third-placed AC Milan a 2-0 win over joint bottom club Palermo. Napoli, with 56 points, stay nine behind leaders Juventus, 2-0 winners at Bologna on Saturday.
