Korean midfielder Ki agrees Celtic transfer - report
SOUTH Korea international Ki Sung-yong has agreed to join Celtic in the January transfer window, according to reports from Korea.
The 20-year-old FC Seoul midfielder will link up with the Scottish Premier League side at the end of the K-League season with local media claiming the transfer fee to be around 3.5 million US dollars (2.1million).
"I am so happy to achieve my dream of playing in Europe," Yonhap News Agency quoted Ki as saying.
Celtic wanted to sign the player before the end of August but with Seoul leading the K-League and in the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League, the club decided against a quick sale.
"I want to go to Europe after Seoul get a good result in the Asian Champions League," Ki added.
Seoul, who sold Lee Chung-yong to Bolton in July for a similar figure, were also pleased with the deal.
"In the beginning, there was talk of a transfer in August but it was pushed to January because of our team's circumstances," FC Seoul general manager Han Woong-soo said.
"Now it's a win-win for both clubs."
