John McGlynn calls on Hearts to push towards top of the table

HEARTS boss John McGlynn today implored his players to push towards the top of the
Scottish Premier League this weekend by recording a third successive victory when
Kilmarnock visit Tynecastle.

McGlynn stressed he is
reasonably content with the start to the season, with Hearts only four points off the SPL summit, but feels three points on Saturday are vital.

Last weekend’s 3-0 win at Tannadice was followed by a 3-1 success against Livingston in the Scottish Communities League Cup on Tuesday night. McGlynn now wants a third win over the Ayrshire club.

“What we set out to do on Tuesday night was to get back-to-back victories, gain confidence and gain belief in our performances. We now want three wins in a row,” he told the Evening News. “This time last week that was the plan: beat Dundee United, beat Livingston, reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup and be further up the SPL table nearer the top.

“On Saturday, we know we are up against a good side in Kilmarnock. They will be tough but we’re at home and we are looking to win the game. We could then be sitting even closer to the top of the table. I would suggest that would be a reasonable start to the season.

“We believed all the time that we were playing well enough and weren’t getting a break. We got our noses in front against Dundee United and that allowed us to relax and show we are a good side. Against Livingston we had many chances before we did score and we were fairly comfortable until we lost the equaliser. However, we came through it.

“We are looking for a
third win, which would put us in a really good position going to Celtic Park ahead of an
international break.”
