Irons vacates his post at Stenhousemuir

STenhousemuir were rocked as Davie Irons quit as manager ahead of last night’s 3-1 defeat at home to a Hamilton Accies XI.

The former Gretna and Morton boss, who replaced John Coughlin at Ochilview in December 2010, cited personal reasons for his decision. Irons took on a new role in the police in the summer but assured the board this would not affect his ability to manage the club.

On the park, Kieran Millar, who spent part of last season on loan at the Warriors, scored two first-half goals for Accies. Stuart Love pulled a goal back for the Warriors with seven minutes left, only for Michael Selfridge to seal the win right at the death.

Partick Thistle’s four summer signings, Hugh Murray, Aaron Muirhead, Steven Lawless and Sean Welsh all started in a 2-1 win at Alloa.

Lawless grabbed the opener midway through the first half with a low drive from the edge of the box and Aaron Sinclair made it two five minutes after the break when he curled home a free kick, only for Alloa’s recent recruit Blair Munn to tap home for Paul Hartley’s side after the ball had struck the post with just over an hour played. Ayr United player/manager Mark Roberts took the Honest Men for the first time in last night’s 1-1 draw with Queen’s Park at Lesser Hampden.

Ayr took the lead in 65 minutes – ironically, just moments after Roberts had substituted himself to get a better view of proceedings from the sidelines – when summer signing David Sinclair released Michael Moffat, who shot home from 18 yards.

The lead lasted five minutes, with Queen’s latest emerging star, Lawrence Shankland bulleting home a header from four yards after a fine cross from Allan Urquhart.

Livingston defeated Stirling Albion 2-0 in a closed-doors game with the highly-rated Marc McNulty heading home in the first half and then grabbing the second late on.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat local minnows Clachnacuddin 3-0 at Grant Street.

Billy McKay got the first after seven minutes, Shane Sutherland smashed in a second four minutes before the break and the third came in 65 minutes from Jason Oswell.
