In Brief: Liechtenstein coach ready to step down | Sean Dyche gets nod at Burnley

LIECHTENSTEIN coach Hans-Peter Zaugg, who came close to stunning Scotland at Hampden in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, is to leave the post at the end of the year.

The Swiss, who has led the part-timers since 2006, has been in charge for 45 matches, winning five, drawing six and losing 34 with 21 goals for and 112 against. Stephen McManus scored in the 97th minute to give Scotland a 2-1 win when Zaugg’s Liechtenstein visited Hampden in September 2010.

BURNLEY are set to name Sean Dyche as their new manager today, ending speculation linking Falkirk’s Steven Pressley and St Johnstone’s Steve Lomas with the job. The Clarets have been without a manager since Eddie Howe returned to Bournemouth earlier this month. Last month Dyche took up a role on the England Under-21s coaching staff. Burnley currently lie 14th in the Championship table.

PAOK Salonika have failed in their appeal against Uefa sanctions, including a suspended ban from European competition, stemming from August’s Europa League tie against Rapid Vienna. PAOK were ordered to play their next three Uefa competition home matches behind closed doors and fined e150,000 after being charged over the conduct of supporters and insufficient organisation at the play-off first leg on 23 August. .

Alan Knill has been sacked as manager of npower League One side Scunthorpe and will be replaced by Brian Laws. Following the weekend defeat against MK Dons – the club’s ninth loss in 15 league games this season – the board opted to oust Knill, who won just 16 of his 78 games in charge. Laws, who will take charge today, returns for his second spell at Glanford Park after achieving two promotions in a nine-year stint between 1997 and 2006.
