Highland League: Huntly knock Forres off the top thanks to Booth
FLAME-HAIRED striker David Booth admits size does matter in the Highland League.
The diminutive Huntly frontman hit a double to help knock physical Forres Mechanics off the top for the first time since early October.
In the 4-2 home victory, Booth made it 13 goals from 14 starts.
Cove Rangers’ 3-0 win at Rothes sent them a point clear, although the Can Cans have two games in hand.
Booth said: “Forres are top of the league for a reason, so to turn them over today was fantastic.
“It was end-to-end and, I’d imagine, really exciting to watch. But it was pretty physical and a bit long ball at times.
“They have massive men at the back, and I’m only something like 5ft 8ins. I just have to look to get in behind them or pull off short and get them turning.”
Simon Allan scored an own-goal for Huntly’s opener before Willie Barron equalised for Forres. Booth pounced twice before the break and in the second-half, Garry Tweedie brought Forres back to 3-2 before Klezckowski sealed the points in stoppage time.
Elsewhere, Buckie Thistle won 3-2 win at Lossiemouth while Keith thrashed Steve Paterson’s Formartine 5-1 and Inverurie Locos hammered Brora 6-1.
Turriff hit five without reply at home to Fort William and Wick won 3-1 at Fraserburgh.
