Highland League: Delight for Duncanson

ROBBIE Duncanson admits he should have been sitting in the stand as he sank old club Clach with a goal and an assist.

The Nairn County striker was in inspired form as Les Fridge’s men moved fourth in the title race after a crucial 3-2 victory.

But Duncanson had to pass a late fitness test before playing and admitted his ankle was heavily strapped and hurting as he pulled off his heroics.

The 28-year-old electrician said: “I was doubtful for the game due to an ankle injury I picked up against Wick last weekend.

“Thankfully, I managed to get it strapped up but I had to come off early as it was still hurting. The win helps ease the pain of the injury and hopefully it will settle down for next week.”

The Station Park club sit eight points off new leaders Cove Rangers, but have no fewer than five games in hand. Duncanson said: “We are doing really well at the moment but we are taking one game at a time.”

Steve Paterson’s Formartine kept up the pressure but it took Calum Dingwall’s late strike to settle a 2-1 victory at Lossiemouth. Brora saw off Strathspey 3-0 with a double from Craig Ross and another from
Steven Mackay.

Deveronvale’s Robert Morrice was matchwinner with a solitary strike at Buckie; Forres Mechanics thrashed Rothes 8-1; Inverurie Locos edged out spirited Fort William 4-2 and Keith won with the odd goal in five at Fraserburgh.
