Hibs are on the trail of South African defender Vaughan Miller, the Evening News can reveal today.

The 24-year-old is currently training with Pat Fenlon’s squad as the Easter Road boss looks to further strengthening his squad over the coming months.

Johannesburg-born Miller began his career with Platinum Stars in his homeland but the right back has since been playing in Scandinavia, firstly with Finnish outfit JJK and latterly with Swedish club FC Vasby United.

While the News understands no deal is imminent, the Irishman has described the overhaul of his squad as an ongoing process. Fenlon insisted only last week he’d spent his budget during the January transfer window in signing midfielder Scott Robertson from Blackpool and extending the loan deals of top scorer Leigh Griffiths, Honduran internationalist Jorge Claros and Manchester City defender Ryan McGivern while also bringing in Matt Done from Barnsley until the end of the season.

The rebuilding process will continue over the summer when Liam Craig will arrive in Edinburgh from St Johnstone having agreed a pre-contract deal in January while a string of first-team regulars – David Wotherspoon, Lewis Stevenson, Gary Deegan, Eoin Doyle and Alan Maybury among them – are out of contract at the end of the season.

Fenlon has revealed talks are underway with a number of those whose deals are drawing to a close in the hope of agreeing new contracts but he’s also made no secret of the fact that along with his backroom staff he’s been actively working on identifying potential targets to add to his squad.

Meanwhile, Hibs Under-20s lost 2-0 to Dunfermline last night.
