Hearts’ cup tie is Mehdi Taouil’s return target

Mehdi Taouil

Mehdi Taouil

MEHDI TAOUIL is targeting Hearts’ Scottish Cup fifth-round tie with St Johnstone on Sunday week as the date for his comeback from a hamstring injury.

The Moroccan internationalist, absent for the last three matches, began light running at Riccarton this week and intends to rejoin full training with the Hearts squad on Monday. Provided he suffers no reaction, he could be in contention for the cup tie.

Taouil injured his hamstring during the Edinburgh derby victory over Hibs at Easter Road on January 2.

He was frustrated at the interruption after playing a key role in victories over Dunfermline and Motherwell but is now nearing a return to action.

“The recovery is going well. I started running at the beginning of the week so hopefully I’m going to be back training with the team soon,” he told the Hearts website.

“I’m very happy we have a break because it means I’m not missing a game [this weekend]. That gives me more time to come back.

“It’s always bad to be injured, this one came really at the wrong time for me. I was starting to feel good but it’s not a problem, I’m working quite hard at the moment and I’m going to keep working hard to come back strong. It’s not like a very long injury so it’s not a big problem.

“I’m going to try to be ready for next week or the week after so it [the cup match] could be a target for me.

“We will decide with the manager and the physio what it’s possible to do.

“If it’s possible for me to be back in the team for the St Johnstone game, I will be quite happy.”

#9 - I would define a 'disaster of a club' as being one point of the bottom of the league, no money, rising debt, falling attendances, 'coudn't-care-less-if-were-relegated--I-still-get-my-director-fee' Rodders in charge, etc. Need we say more. He was fit when we signed him but was subsequently injured. Perhaps you should have told us that before we signed him, but, hey-ho, not everyone is psychic like you.

Cant beat a hibs fan eh, all of them are financial experts, medical experts, scouting experts, I wonder if they could focus their time and energy on their own team tho, somebody needs to tell them their in a relegation fight, you'd think they'd notice that themselves tho such is their perceptivness

9* On the other hand, no-one in the Hibs squad would get anywhere near the Hearts squad. Not nearly good enough. In saying that, O'Connor might, but he wouldn't be available to play for the next couple of years.

Type of injury that tends to repeat itself so doubt many clubs would be interested in him. The little I`ve seen of him he`s very overrated anyway. Injury will cost Hearts thousands (What`s new?!) since they`re stuck with him till summer. What a disaster of a club.

Shame for him to get injured as he was having a good run in the side finally. Hopefully get a good run towards for the end of the season from him before he is inevitably binned, which would be a shame as he's the kind of player we've lacked for a number of years and I was delighted to see him sign for us. Comment #2 - muppet. Comment #3 - explain yourself.
