Good start to Euro bid by Scots U17s
KILMARNOCK youngster Robbie Muirhead bagged a hat-trick as Scotland’s under-17s got their European Championship qualifying round off to a good start with a 5-2 win over Luxembourg in Georgia.
Muirhead got the opener after five minutes and hi second just before half-time. A handball gave Muirhead the chance of his hat-trick from the penalty spot 17 minutes into the second half and he took it with Celtic’s Paul McMullan lobbing home the fourth seven minutes later. After Luxembourg pulled two back, Rangers’ Ryan Sinnamon scored a 40 yarder in the final seconds.
The Scots top their group of four teams as Ukraine beat the Georgian hosts 3-1 in the other game and coach Dean Gorre said: “I was looking for a clean sheet however at 4-0 up we lost a bit of concentration. We can take confidence from this game before playing Ukraine.”
