FORMER Rangers and AC Milan midfielder Gennaro ‘Rino’ Gattuso has been named player-coach at Swiss side FC Sion.
The midfielder, famed for his aggressive style, has taken charge at the club following a series of poor results. In a statement, Sion said: “Until further notice, the players will manage their activities themselves.”
FC Sion have been involved in a number of controversies in recent years. They were thrown out of the Europa League in 2011 after beating Celtic. The Swiss side had fielded five ineligible players in the tie.
Gattuso played 34 times for Rangers between 1997 and 1998, and won two Champions League titles with AC Milan. In 2011, Gattuso headbutted former Scotland international Joe Jordan during a match against Tottenham Hotspur.
