Cooper resigns as Hartlepool manager

Neale Cooper has resigned as manager of League One Hartlepool.

Pools have secured just seven wins from their last 39 matches and former Aberdeen great Cooper admitted his job was in jeopardy after Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Bury.

After pondering his situation overnight, Cooper decided that it was in the best interests of the club that he stood down.

A club statement said: “It is with reluctance that Hartlepool United today accepted the resignation of first-team coach Neale Cooper. Neale stated that he had been very disappointed with the results achieved since the start of the season.”

Micky Barron has agreed to take temporary charge of the team.

Ipswich and Jewell part company

Ipswich Town have parted company with manager Paul Jewell by mutual consent.

Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat by Derby sent Town to the foot of the npower Championship table, ten matches on from their solitary league win this term against Watford.

Jewell, who took charge at Portman Road in January 2011, suggested he was close to quitting following the weekend loss to Hull and did not appear at last night’s post-match press conference.
