East of Scotland LEague: Welfare stun champions

Whitehill Welfare led 4-0 after only 26 minutes of their Premier Division top-of-the-
table clash against champions Stirling University.

Paul Forbes gave Whitehill the lead before a Stevie Manson cross floated into the net. Manson headed in his second goal before Aaron Somerville ran through to net another and complete the scoring.

Jack Beesley scored a stoppage time winner to give Spartans a 4-3 victory away to Preston Athletic. Kevin Morrison gave Preston the lead and after Beesley missed a penalty, Spartans did equalise when Alasdair MacKinnon prodded home. Donal Henretty and Chris Anderson increased Spartans’ advantage before Spartans’ Daniel O’Donnell was sent off and Sean Martin netted the resultant penalty.

Bobby Nwanze headed in a late equaliser for Preston then came Beesley’s winner.

Civil Service Strollers and Edinburgh University drew 2-2, Jack Beacher giving the students the lead with a penalty before Eddie Mearns equalised early in the second half. Charlie Brigain fired the students ahead again then Dan Ward equalised with a 25-yard free kick.

Heriot-Watt University beat Edinburgh City 2-0 and Gretna 2008 overcame Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale 2-1.
