East of Scotland: Edinburgh City take step to safety

EDINBURGH City moved out of the relegation zone in the Central Taxis Premier Division thanks to a 3-1 win over Edinburgh University.

Civil Service Strollers jumped into third place with a 2-0 win against Vale of Leithen while Preston Athletic drew 1-1 with Tynecastle.

In the quarter-finals of the SFA South Region Challenge Cup, Whitehill Welfare defeated Gretna 2008 3-2 and Spartans triumphed 3-2 against Threave Rovers. Lothian Thistle won 3-1 against St Cuthbert Wanderers and Dalbeattie Star produced a shock by defeating Stirling University 1-0. Finally, in the Central Taxis First Division, Easthouses Lily beat leaders Coldstream 2-1.
