Dundee derby red cards quashed on appeal
Johnny Russell and Dundee's Stephen O'Donnell were sent off
TWO red cards handed out during last week’s Dundee derby have been rescinded after appeals by both clubs.
• Dundee’s Stephen O’Donnell and United’s Johnathon Russell see bookings quashed
• Players were carded for recklessly dangerous play but SFA upholds appeals
The bookings occurred on Sunday August 19, during the first competitive Dundee derby in seven years, after Dundee made a recent return to the SPL.
The pair were red-carded after an altercation on the pitch, but United boss Peter Houston had earlier in the week expressed hope that Russell’s card would be rescinded, saying he felt both players had been treated harshly. The SFA heard appeals from both clubs and made the decision this afternoon.
United emerged 3-0 winners at Tannadice after Russell scored twice - one strike taking a deflection from Dundee’s Davide Grassi before going in.
