Division Two: Table-topping Queens extend lead to six points as Alloa sink second-placed Forfar

A round-up of yesterday’s action from the second division

Stenhousemuir 3 - 0 East Fife

Substitute John Gemmell scored the hosts’ opener in the 65th minute and he volleyed home a second three minutes later.

Any hopes of an East Fife comeback were dashed when Stewart Kean clipped home Stenhousemuir’s third in the 72nd minute.

Arbroath 3 - 1 Brechin City

Alex Keddie prodded the hosts ahead in the 34th minute only for David McKenna to equalise shortly after half-time.

However, Paul Currie’s 75th minute strike restored Arbroath’s lead before Derek Holmes headed home a late third.

Ayr 2 - 1 Albion Rovers

Michael Moffat opened the scoring for Ayr from the penalty spot in the second minute but the visitors’ Steven Howarth levelled.

In the dying seconds Barry Russell was sent off for a professional foul on Moffat who stepped up to slam home the resulting spot-kick.

Forfar Athletic 2 - 3 Alloa Athletic

Ryan McCord’s penalty put Alloa ahead in the seventh minute before Danny Denholm’s equaliser for second-placed Forfar moments later.

Denholm levelled again after Jason Marr had scored Alloa’s second but Ben Gordon pounced to net Alloa’s winner in the 83rd minute.

Stranraer 0 - 2 Queen of the South

Queen of the South hold a six-point lead at the top of the Second Division after a 2-0 victory at Stranraer.

Willie Gibson set up the free-scoring Gavin Reilly to net in the 28th minute to put the league leaders in front and Nicky Clark added a decisive second at the death.
