Darren McGregor’s rise inspires Lewis Coult
COWDENBEATH striker Lewis Coult admits Darren McGregor’s rapid rise from Arniston Rangers to St Mirren should be the inspiration for any Junior player.
Both Coult and McGregor, from Clermiston and Leith respectively, earned career-enhancing moves from Gorebridge outfit Arniston to Cowdenbeath within a year of each other.
While striker Coult, 24, is earning a decent living banging in goals for Cowden in the First Division, defender McGregor went to the next level when he followed manager Danny Lennon to St Mirren in 2010.
Before his recent injury, McGregor had been linked with moves to Rangers and the Championship.
“If there’s anybody a Junior player should be looking to model themselves on, it would be Darren McGregor,” said Coult, who was rejected by a string of SFL clubs as a kid before getting back on track at Arniston. “I certainly look to him for inspiration. He’s proved that it’s there for anyone who wants it enough.”
