Coyle’s squad still has class to sting Hornets

OWEN Coyle has kept the majority of players who featured in Bolton’s ill-fated Premier League campaign last season and there are still many class acts on the books. Ex-England warhorse Kevin Davis and former Watford player Marvin Sordell will pose a huge threat to defences in the Championship.

Bolton face Watford – aka Udinese rejects. The Hornets’ Italian owners have deemed it wise to parachute in ten players from the Serie A club, and talented or not that is surely too many too soon. Their results suggest so too – after
being humbled at home in the cup by League 2 opposition they were trounced 5-1 at Derby, a team Bolton beat 2-0 the week before.

Despite being 20th in the table
Bolton have four points from six at home and look today’s best value bet at 10-11 general.

Elsewhere, Sunderland with new signings Adam Johnson and Scotland refusenik Steven Fletcher are surely overpriced at 12-5 with Betvictor to beat out of sorts Liverpool. Ex-Hibs striker Akpoe Sodje is leading the line well
for Preston and they can account for Crawley 13/10 Betvictor, while Spurs can collect their first three points at Reading today (21-20 Hills).

The Champions league starts on Tuesday and perhaps we may see a completely new winner at Wembley next spring. The Spanish giants are bound to be there, but perhaps Juventus at 20-1 could give punters a run for their money. They might have their domestic league won by Christmas to allow them to concentrate more on Europe and have both the hunger and experience
to go close.

It’s no surprise to see Lionel Messi topping the golden boot market at 7-4, and as an each-way alternative Van Persie at 12-1 makes sense, while Mario Gomez at 16-1 is worth a look too.
