Charles Green: 'The sooner Rangers can leave Scottish football the better'

RANGERS chief executive Charles Green has said that the club are committed to investigating the sale of the Ibrox naming rights and are on the brink of a sponsorship deal, despite fears of a supporters’ backlash.

Green has confirmed that significant progress has been made regarding the sale of the naming rights, but fans

have expressed concerns about the plans since it was reported that Newcastle United and Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley wanted to rebrand Ibrox as the ‘Sports Direct Arena’ for around £1 million per season. Some sections of the support protested against the proposals during Tuesday night’s 3-0 win over Annan Athletic.

Although not addressing the supporters’ concerns about the potential renaming of Ibrox, Charles Green confirmed that he is eager to continue to find ways of making the Third Division side more money.

“I’ve said from day one that providing it’s legal, I’ll do it to bring money into this club,” he vowed.

“If we believe that because we have £30 million in the bank that Charles Green should go and lie on a beach for two years while it gets frittered away, I’m quite happy to do that but I don’t think that’s right for the club.

“So while I’m chief executive I will explore every opportunity to make money for this club.”
