Changing room chat: Thriller Miller – but not in the kilt
FORMER Hibs and Aberdeen manager Alex Miller won’t be donning the kilt and treating his new Siberian fans to the skirl of the pipes.
The 62-year-old, who was also assistant manager for Scotland and Liverpool, joined Russian second division side FC Sibir Novosibirsk at the turn of the year.
He had to take part in a question and answer session with supporters and was asked, if he managed to lead Novosibirsk back into the Russian Premier League, would he celebrate by playing the bagpipes in the city’s famous Lenin Square while wearing a kilt. His answer didn’t exactly do anything to dispel his dour reputation, as he responded: “Firstly, I do not plan to bring my kilt to Novosibirsk. And secondly, I do not know how to play bagpipes.”
Miller, who has also coached in Japan and Sweden, has, however, been delighted with the club’s pre-season training camp in Turkey. And, despite all the previous evidence to the contrary, he promised an attacking style. He said: “The fans in the stadium want to see exciting football and the team to win and that’s our aim.”
