Butcher out to halt cup holders’ run
Terry Butcher is aiming to end Celtic’s impressive winning run in tomorrow’s William Hill Scottish Cup fifth-round tie at the Tulloch Caledonian Thistle stadium.
Rejuvenated Caley Thistle go into the game unbeaten in seven games but their good form is eclipsed by the Parkhead men who have won 14 successive domestic games on their way to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and into the final of the Scottish Communities League Cup, where they play Kilmarnock at Hampden next month. Inverness manager Butcher is looking to bring the Celtic juggernaut to a halt in the Highlands.
He said: “The boys know the importance of the game, they know the opposition and how well Celtic are playing at the moment because they are on an excellent run themselves too.
“But runs have to come to an end and we want to end Celtic’s run and make progress in this competition. To do that we have got to be at our best and we have got to give it everything.
“I am very happy with the guys, the way they are talking, training and they are looking forward to the game.
“We want to enjoy it on Saturday and to do that we have to give our very best and see where that takes us. We will certainly have a go.”
