Borders buzzing over the prospect of local derby

One of the most eagerly anticipated games in recent Borders footballing history takes place tomorrow at Yarrow Park when Selkirk host near neighbours Vale of Leithen in the second round of the William Hill Scottish Cup, kick-off 3pm. The respective managers, Mike McKinnon of home club Selkirk, and Vale’s Fraser Ogilvie, are both optimistic they can lead their sides to a potential money-spinning third round tie.

“Everybody connected with Selkirk is looking forward to the game, and, as players and management, we have done as much as we possibly can at training this week,” said McKinnon. “I will definitely not have to motivate my players because if they are not up for this game then they shouldn’t be playing football.”

Ogilvie, a former Easter Road starlet now in charge of Vale, said: “I’m excited. My players have to go to Selkirk with the right attitude in what is probably one of the biggest games of their footballing lives. I can’t wait for tomorrow to come and, although Vale may be favourites, recent form goes out of the window in a derby like this one.”

Ogilvie has Kerr Dodds back in midfield, but striker Danny Noon misses out
because of suspension.
