VETERAN ITALIAN striker Alessandro Del Piero has sealed a switch to Australian A-League side Sydney FC.

The former Juventus striker had reportedly been a target for English Premier League sides Southampton and Liverpool, as well as Celtic, but indicated he would prefer a move to Australia last week.

The forward, who scored 208 goals in 513 appearances for the Turin side, was confirmed to have signed a two-year-deal worth around $2 million per season, making Del Piero the highest paid athlete in Australian sport.
