MIKE ASHLEY is reported to be planning to sell Newcastle in a bid to increase his stake at Rangers.

The Daily Record are reporting that the billionaire has previously been halted in his attempts to buy more than the 10 per cent he currently owns due to SFA concerns over his ownership of the English Premier League club.

Ashley is apparently keen to secure more control at the Ibrox club after it was revealed he already owned the naming rights for the stadium and that his Sports Direct firm had taken control of the club’s retail stores.

The businessman will be looking to sell Newcastle for around £230 million, a £96 million profit on the £134 million he paid for the club originally.
