Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley could be forced into forking out a hefty sum to cover the legal costs of Dave King and the Scottish Football Association, according to reports.

The Newcastle United owner has decided to drop his attempts to force a judicial review of the SFA’s decision to declare King as a “fit and proper person” to head the Ibrox boardroom.

The review was due to take place today but is expected to be formally cancelled by a judge after Ashley gave up the fight at the last moment.

There is a possibility Ashley will be forced to cover the legal costs of the other two parties, which are likely to tally well into six-figures.
