Joey Barton has thanked Rangers fans for their support during his short stay at the club.

The midfielder’s contract was officially terminated on Thursday afternoon after just eight first-team appearances.

Rangers released a statement confirming Barton’s departure and said there would be no further comment from club or player.

But Barton swiftly took to Twitter to express his gratitude to supporters.

The former England international, who has over three million Twitter followers, wrote: “I’d like to thank the supporters of Rangers for their incredible support during my time at the club. Wish you all the best for the future.”
