FORMER Ibrox legend Davie Weir could be set for a return to Rangers as part of a new-look managerial team, it’s been reported today.
Weir is currently working with Mark Warburton at Brentford, but both are set to leave their roles at the English Championship side in the summer. The Scottish Sun are reporting that the former Everton and Rangers defender’s next role could be as coach of the Scottish Championship side, and Mark Warburton could also be set to join him.
Weir is currently the latest in a long list of candidates linked with the club including Billy Davies, Terry Butcher and Stuart McCall.
It’s understood that Dave King is targeting someone to fulfil more of a ‘coaching’ role than be an outright manager. The South African businessman admitted that the new regime are not looking to buy a new team and insists that the candidate would have to “build and develop” the current squad and also look to “bring youngsters through”.
