Alan Stubbs has revealed that he is desperate to add steel to style as he closes in on his next signing for Hibernian.
The Easter Road head coach has been linked with a move for NAC Breda midfielder Joey Suk.
And, as he seeks to beef up the engine room of his team, Stubbs has also been credited with an interest in Northern Ireland internationalist Sammy Clingan, who was freed by Kilmarnock earlier this summer.
He has already lost the experience of Scott Robertson and skipper Liam Craig from last season’s side, and knows he is light in numbers in midfield.
Having seen his side miss their chance to bounce back to the SPFL Premiership when they lost to Rangers in the play-off semi-final, he is keen to add some physicality to the middle of the park.
Stubbs says he is now determined to recruit a more defensive lynchpin to contrast with the attacking flair of the likes of Scott Allan and Fraser Fyvie.
He said: “I want someone who’s going to give us more of a physical aspect in that midfield area.
“We’ve got some very talented players, throughout the team, to be honest.
“And the one thing I need in the team now is someone who’s going to win the ball back for us, and obviously be able to play.
“But also one who will give us a little bit of steel in there as well.”
