COWDENBEATH left Morton adrift at the foot of the Championship with the travelling fans calling for Greenock boss Allan Moore to be sacked.
Morton trailed 2-0 after just 140 seconds with the most horrendous start imaginable.
The Blue Brazil took the lead after 43 seconds when Jamie Stevenson’s free kick was only partially cleared to Jordan Morton, whose brilliant left foot volley from 20 yards flew past goalkeeper Nicolas Caraux, albeit with the aid of a slight deflection. Two minutes later ‘Beath carved their way through the hapless Morton defence when Kane Hemmings ran on to a precision pass from Greg Stewart to place the ball into the far corner of the net.
The points were secured six minutes from the break when Stevenson swung a corner over, Stewart’s downward header bounced off Caraux’s legs and Hemmings prodded the ball over the line from a yard out. Deep in first half stoppage time Morton reduced the deficit when Dougie Imrie netted from a Nacho Novo pass.
Cowden added a fourth in 72 minutes when Stewart tapped in after excellent work by Hemmings, and the ex-Ranger completed his hat-trick 11 minutes from time.
