Watt wants chance to score against boyhood heroes

Have your say

TONY Watt admits Juventus have a team full of his heroes. Now the man who beat Barcelona hopes for a chance to shoot down the Serie A leaders too.

The Celtic youngster famously came off the bench to score what turned out to be the winning goal against the Spanish giants as the Parkhead side netted a 2-1 Champions League victory last year.

The 18-year-old striker knows he will forever be remembered for that goal, but he is keen to ensure they remember him for other reasons too.

He would love to start against his childhood favourites tomorrow night.

Watt said: “The Barca game’s behind me. I’ve only scored one goal for Celtic since I scored against them, so I need to prove to the fans I’m not just a one hit wonder as well.

“I know everything about Juve. They’re just a massive club. I grew up watching guys like Alessandro Del Piero. The guy’s a hero of mine.

“It would be just unreal to face that club. I used to watch Champions League when I was younger and Del Piero would just run the show. He was just a wizard on the pitch, wasn’t he?

“Andrea Pirlo ran the Euros against England. It’s crazy the
players they’ve got.

“Nicolas Anelka is world class too. At Chelsea he was different class.”

And Watt is still hoping history will repeat itself tomorrow.

He stressed: “To me, Barcelona’s over, you can’t really think about that. The Juve game is going to be massive and it would be one of the best moments of my life if I came on and did it again.

“I don’t know though, do
miracles happen twice?

“People still come up and say ‘well done for that’. I just want to kick on. At the end of my career I don’t want people to say I was just the guy who scored against Barcelona. I want them to talk about lots of other things. Things like how many league titles I’ve won, how many cups I’ve won, how many goals I’ve scored. All of that.”

Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon has not been slow to talk up the praises of Celtic No 1 Fraser Forster, and Watt can’t believe Forster doesn’t have an England cap after a series of superb displays.

He said: “Big Fraser’s unreal. I don’t know how he’s not won an England cap. He’s in better form than Joe Hart, he’s in better form than Jack Butland. How he won a cap before Fraser I don’t know.

“In training you can hit an
unbelievable shot and you just see the big guy getting his hand on it and you’re thinking ‘oh no!’

“He’s just so hard to get the ball past.”
