CELTIC 2 RANGER 2 ETA (RANGERS WIN 5-4 ON PENALTIES), SCOTTISH CUP SEMI-FINAL, APRIL 17, 2016

In many ways the Ronny Deila era in microcosm with the failure to perform on the big occasion courtesy of a baffling approach and poor execution in key moments.

CELTIC 1 MOLDE 2, EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP GAME, OCTOBER 22, 2015

A shambolic European display the likes of which has rarely been witnessed at Celtic Park and which managed to eclipse the mere awfulness of the loss in Norway to the same middling opponent a fortnight earlier.

CELTIC 1 ROSS COUNTY 3, LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL, JANUARY 31, 2016

CELTIC 0 MARIBOR 1, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PLAY-OFF, AUGUST 26, 2015

The game, eight weeks into Deila’s tenure, wherein the die probably was cast. After the reprieve offered by Legia Warsaw’s administrative error, Celtic had gone to Slovenia and appeared to lay the groundwork for the Champions League group stages with a 1-1 draw earned with an excellent display. Yet, when it came to sealing the deal at home, they couldn’t deliver. They played as if waiting for their world to collapse and it did, with a goal 14 minutes from time.

CELTIC 0 LEGIA WARSAW 2, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE THIRD ROUND QUALIFIER, AUGUST 6, 2016

The result may have turned into a 3-0 win for Celtic as the consequence of Legia fielding an ineligible substitute but the soulless nature of Deila’s side at Murrayfield in seeking to overturn a 4-1 first leg deficit was still chilling. A chilling portent, indeed.
