CRAIG Gordon has reinforced his commitment to Celtic by signing a contract extension which will keep the Scottish international at Parkhead until 2018.

The goalkeeper was signed by the Scottish champions prior to the start of last season’s campaign and the former Hearts captain quickly became Celtic No 1 after Fraser Forster was sold to Southampton.

Gordon went on to enjoy an outstanding campaign where he helped the club to win a league and league cup double, and was rewarded with the writers’ Player of the Year gong at the end of season awards.

Celtic initially picked the player off the football scrapheap after he’d spent two years out of the game with a knee injury. He was signed to a two-year deal with a club option for a further year.

The new contract will now run until the summer of 2018, which will keep the player at the club past his 35th birthday.

Gordon told the Celtic official website: “I am absolutely delighted to extend my contract with Celtic, such a fantastic football club. I have enjoyed my first year immensely at Celtic.

“It has been great to enjoy success already and I’m looking forward to giving everything to bring more good times to our supporters who have given me such a tremendous welcome to the club.”

Celtic boss Ronny Deila added: “This is brilliant news and we’re all delighted that Craig has extended his contract at the club.

“He was my first signing as Celtic manager and since he joined us last summer, he has been an important member of the squad and he’s made a great contribution to our success.

“Craig’s a top-class goalkeeper and we’re lucky to have him here at Celtic.”
