Dick Campbell will lock horns with his former club Dunfermline after Forfar defeated Ayr United 2-1 to jump over Angus neighbours Arbroath, who lost 1-0 to Alloa, and claim the last play-off place.
“Getting into the play-offs means a lot to everyone at this club,” said Campbell after goals from two former Dunfermline players, Chris Templeman and Iain Campbell, secured the vital victory at Station Park. “Just 12 months ago we had to win on the last day to stay in this division, so it has been a terrific turnaround. It is a bit special to me that we are facing Dunfermline, but there is no place for sentiment.”
Arbroath, who started the day in fourth, lost when 15-year-old schoolboy Scott Hynd headed in a last-minute winner for an Alloa side that are meeting Brechin in the other play-off contest.
Arbroath had come close to making the breakthrough just before the hour mark with a Colin Hamilton shot that came back off the underside of the bar and Graham Bayne touched in only to be booked for handball. With the Red Lichties pressing, a Mark Docherty cross came back off the woodwork and sat up nicely for Hynd to head home.
East Fife will play Berwick of the Third Division in the play-offs after a 3-0 home defeat to Brechin City meant that there was no escape from ninth place. All the goals came in the last 20 minutes, with David McKenna opening the scoring and Jonathan Brown hitting a late double.
Stranraer kept hold of their Second Division status in style with a 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir. Craig Malcolm opened the scoring early on with John Gemmell levelling for the Warriors with a rebound after he saw a penalty saved. Malcolm kept the Stair Park men up when he netted a penalty.
Champions Queen of the South defeated relegated Albion Rovers 1-0 thanks to Nicky Clark’s 41st goal of the season to move on a new record points total of 92.
