Changing Room Chat: Martyn Campbell docks his own wages

Have your say

MANY footballers are accused of being greedy, but Ayr United’s longest-serving player, Martyn Campbell, is handing back his wages to the club as he does not want to take them when he is not fit.

The centre back is due to go for an operation to help cure a knee problem today and he has told manager Mark Roberts that he will go without money until he is ready to be called on again. Praising the 31-year-old, Roberts said: “To say he will go unpaid until he is fit enough to return is a magnificent gesture and tells you all you need to know about the big guy.”
