Pre-match requests from the stadium announcer for a Mexican-wave proved futile at a sparsely-populated Stark’s Park, writes Darren Johnstone. But both Raith Rovers and Alloa ensured there was some sort of crowd participation after sharing a goal apiece in yesterday’s draw.
Raith had started the game on the front foot but the defensive frailties that were brutally exposed in last week’s 6-1 thrashing at Rangers resurfaced in the 14th minute when Alloa went ahead. Wasps midfielder Kevin Cawley’s cross was sliced high into the air by Rovers defender Rory McKeown and striker Liam Buchanan had time to direct a header into the top corner.
Rovers winger Barrie McKay supplied the cross for the equaliser in the 34th minute. The on-loan Rangers player floated a delivery to the back post and Grant Anderson rose high to power a downward header across goalkeeper Craig McDowall.
Alloa were reduced to ten men in the 81st minute after defender Kyle Benedictus collected a second booking.
