CELTIC midfielder Kris Commons hits out at team-mate Efe Ambrose for a heavy defeat that leaves their Champions League hopes all but dashed, while Rangers agree a pre-contract deal with Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell

Efe Ambrose to blame for Juventus loss, says Kris Commons

Kris Commons lashed out at Celtic team-mate Efe Ambrose in the wake of defeat to Juventus that leaves the Parkhead side all but out of the Champions League.

Ambrose had only returned to Scotland on the morning of the game, and despite being away for African Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria he was thrust into the starting 11 by manager Neil Lennon.

Ambrose was at fault for Juventus’ first goal, scored just three minutes in to the game, and should have put Celtic on level terms with a free header before being at fault for the Italian side’s third strike, which has put the tie virtually out of reach.

A furiou Commons said: “Look, the manager picked him. The manager pulled him to one side and asked him if he was feeling okay. He said he was feeling brilliant.

“You know, if he wasn’t feeling okay, then he should have said so.

“If he felt good, then he should have put in a better performance.” (Daily Record)

Cammy Bell signs pre-contract agreement to join Rangers

Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell has struck a pre-contract agreement with Rangers to tie him to Ibrox until 2017. The 26-year-old agreed terms with Ally McCoist’s side after rejecting a five-year deal at Rugby Park.

The deal, understood to be worth £8,000 a week, will commence on September 1, when Rangers’ transfer embargo will be lifted.

“Cammy fits the bill in terms of his ability and his availability in terms of being out of contract in the summer,” said McCoist. (The Sun)

Arsenal ‘sent scout to watch Victor Wanyama’

Arsenal appear to have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama after the North London club sent a scout to watch the Kenyan. The 21-year-old has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, and Arsenal are thought to be the latest to join a growing string of admirers for the combative midfielder. Willo Flood wants Dundee United talks

Dundee United midfielder has insisted he wants to enter contract talks with Dundee United. The former Celtic playmaker, whose current deal expires in the summer, is rumoured to be on Hibernian’s radar, but Flood insists he is happy at Tannadice.

“I’m enjoying my football, and if you are enjoying football, you’re happy. We’ll see what happens. I’m sure the club will speak to my agent over the next few weeks and we’ll take it from there.” (The Sun)

Steven Thompson signs new St Mirren deal

Steven Thompson looks set to finish his career with St Mirren after the striker penned an extension with the Buddies. The 34-year-old former Scotland international will now remain with St Mirren until the summer of 2014.

“I am very happy here. It was the easiest decision I’ve ever had to make.” (Daily Express)
